Le Corsaire is one of the classical ballets
kept in the repertoires for more than 150 years. It has been first
presented on the stage of Grand Opera in Paris in 1856. Authors of the ballet: librettists A.Saint-George, J.Masilie,
ballet master J.Masilie. Two years later Le Corsaire was presented
in Bolshoi Theater in Saint-Petersburg, where it has
been staged by the famous ballet master J. Perrot and later revived by M. Petipa.
Le Corsaire has been in constant demand by different choreographers,
who edited old choreography or created new productions. Both artists
and audience have been attracted by the free-minded spirit, romantic
atmosphere and passion of Byron's poem, which has become a foundation for the libretto.
Yuri Grogorovitsch had first turned to the "Le Corsaire" in 1994.
His production (staged in Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow) contained all
the most important fragments of his predecessors' choreography, first
and foremost those created by Petipa. In 2005 he created a new version
in Krasnodar ballet theater.
This production would be the third for the choreographer (Yuri Grigorovitsch)
and the first for the "Kremlin ballet" company under the direction of Andrey Petrov.
